Frequently Asked Questions

The Shoes

Leather and colors

How should I treat my shoes?
Our clogs are easy to look after. Spots or marks on the wood can easily be removed using some sandpaper. The untreated leather (ie the color Nature) must be treated with olive oil. This way it will darken and be more resistant to dirt and water.

The wood can also be treated with some olive oil. For more information, se Good to know.

Can I wear my shoes in rainy or humid weather?
Water makes the leather very stretchable. Therefore, do not use your shoes in the rain, wet grass or when the leather is wet, as they might stretch and lose shape very quickly.

Will the natural untreated leather darken?
Yes, it will darken really nicely with time. You can also threat the leather carefully with olive oil and / or expose them to sunlight to make them darker even faster.

Will the leather stretch?
Yes, leather is a natural material that will stretch with wear, and after a while fit your feet perfectly. Hasbeens is made of thicker, high quality leather.

The color looks different from your website, why?
Some color variations do occur since the leather varies and reacts naturally. The leather varies from one piece of leather to another.

Does the colored leather stain?
Usually not, but the darker colors might stain a bit if the leather gets humid or wet.
The dark nubuck colors may stain if rubbed against a lighter fabric or surface.

Wood

Can the wood splinter?
Since the wood is hard but fragile, the material may chip if you knock it into something. Luckily, the splinters are very easy to repair. Just use regular wood glue and glue the piece of wood back where it belongs. You can also use a clamp to put pressure on the repaired area for a couple of hours.

If you have some problems with the repair, do not hesitate to contact us.

What kind of wood you use in your shoes?
The soles of the shoes are made of either alder tree or lime tree (called linden / basswood in N. America). The wood comes from forests in Europe, with strict regulations governed by the EU, whereby for each tree cut, a new one is planted.

Why is there a small whole in the wood on some of the shoes?
Our shoes are lasted according to old traditional handcraft methods of pruduction. The last is attached to the shoe with a nail that leaves a small whole in the back of the shoe, underneath the heel label.

Sole

What can I do if my rubber sole begins to loose?
The rubber soles are glued and can come unfixed after frequent use. Wood is a natural material that flexes over time, whereby friction can appear between the wood and rubber.
The rubber sole can easily be replaced at your local shoe repair shop.
You should never use your shoes without any rubber sole; it damages the wood sole.

Sizes

How do I find my size?
The sizes are generally standard, running neither large or small, but the best way to be certain of which size you should order is to measure your foot and use our size chart.
On our website you can find a specific size chart for each model.

Models

Will my favorite models be restocked?
We frequently receive new models and reorders, but we cannot always tell you exactly when. Sign up for our newsletter if you would like to have the latest news from Swedish Hasbeens. You can also send an email to info@swedishhasbeens.com if you are after a specific model.

What models are available in the stores?
Each store has their own range of models, contact the particular store or visit their website, you can find their contact information here.

Environment

Can I be sure of that your leather is completely free from chromium?
Yes, we only use vegetable tanned leather that is treated with vegetable oils, according to traditional methods of production. The natural grained leather is good, both for your skin and the environment.

Order, payment and delivery

I cannot choose my size?
If you are not able to choose your size in the roll down menu, it means the particular size unfortunately is out of stock at the moment in the color that you've chosen.

I cannot pass the payment page; the site only steps backwards after filling in my bank details, why?
Please contact your bank and try once again; the payment could be denied because we charge your credit card from Sweden. Your card will not get charged without receiving a confirmation. If you still have problem to complete your purchase, please contact us at info@swedishhasbeens.com.

Is the shipping cost higher for an additional pair of shoes or item?
No, the shipping cost is a fixed cost regardless how many items or pairs of shoes you order.

Complaints

When do I have the right to complain on my item?
When it comes to faults that are not mentioned in our disclaimer you have the right to complain. See our Purchasing Conditions. You have to consider wood as a fragile material. It is not flexible like plastic or other synthetic materials. Be careful not to knock the wood into stairs or edges of sidewalks since the wood might chip.

Faults that are listed in our disclaimer are faults that naturally appear with wear, and cannot be approved complaints. Please do not send anything back to us without our knowledge and confirmation. If you are unsure, just send an email to info@swedishhasbens.com.
