Swedish Hasbeens Recruits New CEO
Swedish Hasbeens, one of Sweden’s fastest growing fashion companies, today announced that Martin Sjöström has joined the company as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Swedish Hasbeens makes retro based, environmentally friendly leather shoes and bags, inspired by original models from the 1970’s. Sandal shoes are made in the original Swedish factories from the 1970’s using ethical and environmentally friendly production methods.
Since the start in 2007, Swedish Hasbeens has enjoyed tremendous growth and its products are now available in around 400 fashion retailers in 20 countries around the world.
In 2008 the company turned over 5m SEK. In the current fiscal year (2010-2011) it is estimated this figure will have grown to 50m SEK. The company has been profitable from its inception.
Martin Sjöström, will replace the former CEO and Co-Founder Cecilia Wingård Neuman.
“Swedish Hasbeens has experience a strong economic growth and is continually expanding. We now need to develop the organization and the company even further,” says Cecilia Wingård Neuman. “With a team of ten members of staff and agents in fifteen countries, we’ve taken the decision that I should hand over the role of CEO to someone else”.
Martin Sjöström has a lengthy experience from senior positions within the fashion industry. He has worked for well-known Swedish fashion companies like Björn Borg, Whyred and Acne.
Says Emy Blixt, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Swedish Hasbeens: “Martin has solid knowledge of the industry and on top of that has a background in finance and marketing, so we think he’s a real catch”.
Chairman of the board is Rolf Lind, Co-Founder of Marc O'Polo.
Swedish Hasbeens – Better Shoes For A Better World
In 2006 Emy Blixt went to the closed-down clog factory in her childhood village in southern of Sweden and discovered their old stock of 300 clogs from the 70’s. Her friends went crazy for more so she started to design new fashion clogs.
Swedish Hasbeens started in 2007 when Emy Blixt and Cecilia Wingård Neuman realized that modern shoes lack the colours, the natural craftsmanship and quality that the traditional shoes once had. The challenge was to produce the shoes in organic materials with new fashion designs using the old production methods from the 70’s. The old factories had to learn new designs and a new way to make organic and high-quality shoes. Since then Swedish Hasbeens has moved on to other product categories like boots, bags, belts and children’s shoes, all based on retro-inspired fashion with high demands on organic materials and sustainable production. However, the desire to create fun, vibrant and creative products is what drives the people behind the brand.
Swedish Hasbeens’ products are now sold in more than 20 countries with US being the largest one. Some of the world’s most influential stores carry their products like American Rag in LA, Bird in NY, Merci in Paris and Antonia in Milano. Swedish Hasbeens has received a huge amount of editorial coverage in media like ELLE, Vogue, Nylon, Lucky Magazine. Also several very influential people have started to wear the shoes. Sarah Jessica Parker wore them on the set of Sex and the City 2 and others who have been seen wearing the shoes include Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kylie Minogue, Robyn, Nina Persson from the Cardigans and of course Dolly Parton.
